The IAR 80 was the only Romanian-designed fighter plane of WW2. When it first flew, in 1939, it was comparable to the most advanced contemporary designs such as the Hawker Huricane and Bf-109E. It was used in the Eastern Front against the Soviet Union and from 1943 defending Romania from allied attacks on oil refineries such as Ploiesti.
This version is from the Escadrila 47, Grupul 9 Vânâtoare, Bucaresti-Pipera airfield, summer 1942. Unit 131 "Felicia".
